The resulting fourteen-track, seventy-minute record refuses to settle into a single genre for more than one song at a time — lurching from the frantic metal of \u003cstrong\u003eGet Out\u003c\/strong\u003e to the hushed lounge of \u003cstrong\u003eEvidence\u003c\/strong\u003e, from the southern-gothic sway of \u003cstrong\u003eTake This Bottle\u003c\/strong\u003e to the hardcore thrash of \u003cstrong\u003eCuckoo For Caca\u003c\/strong\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMike Patton's vocals range over the entire record — crooner, screamer, preacher, soul singer — and the band behind him are at their most deliberately unruly. The title track pairs quiet piano and soul-ballad vocals; \u003cstrong\u003eRicochet\u003c\/strong\u003e is one of the most direct rock singles the band ever cut; \u003cstrong\u003eDigging The Grave\u003c\/strong\u003e is pure arena rock; and the closing \u003cstrong\u003eJust A Man\u003c\/strong\u003e rises into a full gospel choir.
