Produced by Fiona Apple and Charley Drayton, the album was recorded between 2008 and 2011 in secret, away from label oversight. It features unconventional instrumentation — including found objects, toy drums, and layered vocal loops — and lyrics that delve into vulnerability, defiance, and self-examination.
