Holy Wars... The Punishment Due opens the album with a blistering riff sequence that shifts between thrash fury and a sinister mid-section, showcasing the interplay between Mustaine and Friedman. Hangar 18 features a legendary series of trading guitar solos. Tornado of Souls contains what many consider the greatest guitar solo in thrash metal history, Friedman's melodic, neoclassical playing reaching an extraordinary emotional peak. Take No Prisoners and Poison Was the Cure maintain an almost unbearable intensity throughout.
