My Generation (1965)
The debut that announced them — raw, furious and unmistakably mod. The title track remains one of rock's defining moments. Roger Daltrey's stutter, Moon's explosive fills, and Townshend's windmill chords all present and correct.

Tommy (1969)
The first rock opera — a bold conceptual leap that changed what the form could do. Pinball Wizard and See Me, Feel Me are the highlights, but the whole double album rewards repeated listening on vinyl.

Who's Next (1971)
The masterpiece. Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes and Won't Get Fooled Again are three of the greatest rock songs ever recorded. The synthesiser experiments give the record a timeless, futuristic feel.

Quadrophenia (1973)
A second rock opera, this one autobiographical — a mod's journey through identity and disillusionment. The Real Me, 5:15 and Love Reign O'er Me make it an essential listen.

Who Are You (1978)
The final album with Keith Moon, who died before its release. The title track is a genuine classic. A bittersweet farewell to the classic line-up, recorded with real power and sadness.
