Collection: Beastie Boys Vinyl Records

The Beastie Boys moved from a Brooklyn hardcore band to one of the most consequential hip-hop groups of the late 1980s and 1990s, building a catalogue that absorbed punk, funk, jazz, soundtrack instrumentals and dub without ever sounding like a pastiche. Paul's Boutique alone — built almost entirely from samples — sits in its own category.

Their later records leaned increasingly into live instrumentation, with the band playing keys, bass and drums themselves on Check Your Head and Ill Communication. The vinyl pressings benefit hugely from the sample-heavy production work.

Best Beastie Boys Albums on Vinyl

Paul's Boutique (1989)
— One of the great sample-based albums in any genre. Co-produced with the Dust Brothers. Sounds extraordinary on vinyl.

Check Your Head (1992)
— The band playing instruments themselves. "So What'cha Want", "Pass the Mic", and a record that opened up everything that followed.

Ill Communication (1994)
— "Sabotage" anchors a record that ranges from instrumental jazz-funk to hardcore back to rap. Their commercial peak.

Licensed to Ill (1986)
— The debut. Loud, snotty, brilliantly produced by Rick Rubin. "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right" and "Brass Monkey".
