Collection: Erykah Badu Vinyl Records

Erykah Badu's catalogue defines neo-soul as fully as any single artist's. Baduizm arrived in 1997 with a vocal style that owed equally to Billie Holiday, hip-hop phrasing and Southern church traditions, and the records that followed pushed further into experimental, head-nodding, sample-led territory — particularly through her collaborations with the Soulquarians and the late J Dilla.

The records are built for unhurried listening on a good system. The bass mixes alone are reason enough to pursue the vinyl pressings.

Baduizm (1997)
— Her debut. "On & On", "Next Lifetime", "Tyrone". The arrival.

Mama's Gun (2000)
— Recorded at Electric Lady with the Soulquarians. Looser, jazzier, with "Bag Lady" and "Didn't Cha Know".

New Amerykah Part One (4th World War) (2008)
— Her most experimental record. Dense, sample-led, politically charged. A masterpiece.

New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh) (2010)
— Softer and more melodic than Part One. "Window Seat" anchors it.
