Collection: Madvillain Vinyl Records – Madvillainy on 2×LP Vinyl

Madvillain is the collaborative project of MF DOOM and Madlib — two of the defining figures of underground hip-hop, combining on one of the great records of the 2000s. DOOM's dense, multi-syllabic, metal-masked wordplay meeting Madlib's dusty, fragmented, crate-dug beats, released on Stones Throw Records in 2004 after years of development and a notorious bootleg leak.

Madvillainy is the only studio album they ever completed together. DOOM's death in 2020 closed the door on any true follow-up, though Madlib has since released Madvillainy 2: The Madlib Remix — a set of alternate-beat versions of the original tracks. The original album is short, dense, sample-heavy, and absolutely unrepeatable: 22 tracks in 46 minutes, most of them under two minutes long, none of them following a conventional verse-chorus structure. Madvillainy on vinyl is essential — the sample-driven textures, the analogue warmth of Madlib's production, and DOOM's close-miked voice all benefit hugely from the format. The Stones Throw 2xLP is the only way to own it.

Best Madvillain Albums on Vinyl

Madvillainy (2004)
One of the greatest hip-hop records ever made. Accordion, Meat Grinder, Figaro, All Caps, Fancy Clown — tracks that refuse normal song structure and instead unfold as a continuous sample-collage with DOOM weaving through. Endlessly rewarding and still sounds unlike anything else. The Stones Throw 2xLP pressing is the definitive version.

Madvillainy 2: The Madlib Remix (2008)
The follow-up release consisting of Madlib's alternate-beat reimaginings of the original tracks, without DOOM's knowledge or involvement. A fascinating companion piece for obsessives rather than an entry point, but genuinely rewarding once you know the originals inside out.
