Paul Weller is one of the most important British songwriters of the last fifty years. Frontman of The Jam between 1977 and 1982, of The Style Council from 1983 to 1989, and a solo artist continuously since 1991, his catalogue now contains more than thirty albums across three distinct phases. The solo run in particular — from the 1992 self-titled debut onwards — has produced some of his finest work.

Stanley Road (1995) is the commercial peak; Wild Wood (1993) is the artistic one; and the astonishing run of later records from 22 Dreams (2008) through Saturns Pattern (2015), A Kind Revolution (2017), True Meanings (2018), On Sunset (2020), Fat Pop (2021), 66 (2024) and beyond has seen Weller grow more musically adventurous, not less, in his sixties. Weller on vinyl is consistently rewarding — soul-influenced, warm, full of Hammond organ and horns. The Polydor and Solid Bond original pressings and the recent 180g reissues are all excellent.

Stanley Road (1995)
His best-selling solo record. The Changingman, You Do Something to Me, Broken Stones, Porcelain Gods — a record that mined classic soul and British R&B with extraordinary confidence. The Peter Blake cover is iconic. Essential.

Wild Wood (1993)
The album where the solo Weller truly emerged. Sunflower, Wild Wood, Can You Heal Us (Holy Man), Hung Up — a quieter, pastoral record produced by Brendan Lynch. Often considered his finest solo work by long-term fans.

22 Dreams (2008)
The ambitious late-career reinvention. A 21-track double album taking in folk, jazz, electronica, spoken word and traditional Weller soul-pop. Have You Made Up Your Mind, Echoes Round the Sun, Empty Ring — the record that proved Weller was still pushing himself.

Saturns Pattern (2015)
One of his strangest and most rewarding records. White Sky, Long Time, These City Streets — built around motorik Can-style rhythms and genuinely experimental production. A real highlight of the later period.

66 (2024)
The album released on his 66th birthday. Soul Wanderer, Jumble Queen, My Best Friend's Coat — featuring Noel Gallagher, Richard Hawley and Jay Mehler. A reflective, generous record by an artist still working at a high level.
