Description

Talking Timbuktu is a collaborative album between Malian guitarist and vocalist Ali Farka Toure and American guitarist Ry Cooder, released on World Circuit Records. It won the Grammy Award for Best World Music Album and remains one of the most acclaimed cross-cultural recordings ever made, demonstrating the deep connections between West African desert blues and the roots of American blues and slide guitar.

Recorded at Ocean Way Recording Studio in Los Angeles, the album finds two master guitarists engaged in an intuitive, unhurried conversation. Toure's hypnotic, cyclical guitar figures interlock with Cooder's slide playing and bottleneck technique across eleven tracks that range from the driving Gomni and Bonde to the meditative Ai Du and Diaraby. There is no competition between the two players -- each finds space within the other's phrasing, creating a sound that feels both ancient and immediate. This vinyl edition includes a previously unreleased alternative take of Lasidan.

This World Circuit reissue presents the album across two LPs on 180 gram vinyl.
