Tabula Rasa is the recording that introduced Arvo Part's tintinnabuli style to a global audience, becoming one of the most important and best-selling albums in the ECM catalogue. The Estonian composer's radically stripped-back approach, in which simple triadic patterns are set against a single melodic voice, created a sound of luminous stillness that influenced a generation of composers and listeners.

The title work, Tabula Rasa, is performed by Gidon Kremer and Tatiana Grindenko with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra conducted by Saulius Sondeckis. Its two movements move from agitated energy to profound calm. Fratres, performed by Kremer with Keith Jarrett at the piano, is built on a repeating pattern that shifts through a series of variations with hypnotic intensity. Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten is a descending bell-tone canon of extraordinary beauty, one of the most frequently performed pieces of contemporary classical music.
