Description
The Brandenburg Concertos are among the supreme achievements of Baroque music, a set of six concertos that Johann Sebastian Bach dedicated to Christian Ludwig, Margrave of Brandenburg, in 1721. Each concerto features a different combination of solo instruments, showcasing Bach's mastery of counterpoint and his ability to create endlessly inventive dialogue between soloists and ensemble.
This LP presents a selection from the six concertos. The works range from the festive brilliance of the First Concerto, with its horns, oboes and violino piccolo, to the intimate chamber texture of the Sixth, scored for violas and cellos without violins. The Third Concerto, for strings alone, is one of Bach's most joyful creations, its outer movements driven by irresistible rhythmic energy.
