Description

Billy Joel's ninth studio album An Innocent Man was originally released on Columbia Records in August 1983 as a tribute to the doo-wop, R&B and early rock and roll music Joel grew up listening to in the 1950s and 1960s. The album produced six singles including Uptown Girl, Tell Her About It and The Longest Time, all of which became major hits.

From the Four Seasons-inspired harmonies of The Longest Time to the Frankie Valli-channelling Uptown Girl and the Motown-flavoured Tell Her About It, the album is a masterclass in classic American pop songwriting filtered through Joel's distinctive piano-driven style. The title track closes the album with a soulful ballad that ranks among his finest vocal performances.

This 2025 Columbia reissue presents the album on black vinyl.
