Description

"Jóga" was the lead single from Björk's acclaimed 1997 album Homogenic and one of the defining moments of her career — a six-minute collision of chamber strings, electronic beats and her most emotionally expansive vocal performance to date. Written as a tribute to her closest friend, the song was accompanied by a landmark music video directed by Michel Gondry. It won the Icelandic Music Award for Best Song and has since been recognised as one of the great singles of the 1990s.

This 2LP reissue on Direct Metal Mastering (DMM) 180-gram vinyl expands the original single release into an eleven-track collection, preserving the complete package of remixes and non-album B-sides that accompanied the original 1997 release. Howie B's string and vocal mixes and buzz water mix offer ethereal alternatives to the original, while Alec Empire's hardcore techno remixes provide an extreme counterpoint — all noise and aggression against the original's graceful melancholy. The B-sides are equally essential: "Sod Off", "Immature" and "So Broken" are among Björk's most intimate non-album recordings, while Howie B's Choice Mix of "All Is Full of Love" offers a fascinating glimpse at an alternative arrangement of another career highlight.
