Description

Plastic Letters is the second studio album from Blondie, originally released in February 1978 on Chrysalis Records. It marked the moment Blondie broke beyond the New York punk scene and into the mainstream, reaching number ten on the UK Albums Chart. The single Denis — a reworking of Randy & The Rainbows’ 1963 hit — went to number two in the UK, while (I’m Always Touched By Your) Presence Dear followed it into the top ten.

Produced by Richard Gottehrer and engineered by Rob Freeman, the album captures the band at their sharpest: Debbie Harry’s vocals cutting through Chris Stein’s guitar work and Jimmy Destri’s keyboards, with Clem Burke driving the whole thing from behind the kit. The record introduced Frank Infante on bass and rhythm guitar, rounding out the classic Blondie lineup. Mastered by Greg Calbi.
