Description

Carcass' Heartwork was originally released on Earache Records in October 1993 and is widely regarded as the album that codified melodic death metal. Produced by Colin Richardson and recorded at Parr Street Studios in Liverpool (formerly owned by Phil Collins), it marked the point at which the Liverpool band moved from the grindcore and gore-soaked extremity of their earlier work into a sharper, more muscular sound built on twin-guitar melodic leads and precise songwriting, while retaining Jeff Walker's caustic growl.

The album is front-loaded with what became some of the band's most enduring tracks — Buried Dreams, No Love Lost, the title track Heartwork and Carnal Forge — and closes on the brooding Death Certificate. Its influence on subsequent melodic death metal from Gothenburg onwards is difficult to overstate, and it was guitarist Michael Amott's final album with the band before forming Arch Enemy.

This 2026 Plastichead exclusive reissue presents the album on limited edition white vinyl on Earache.
