Cry is the second studio album by Cigarettes After Sex — the ambient pop project led by El Paso-born songwriter and guitarist Greg Gonzalez — released on 25 October 2019 on Partisan Records. Recorded during night-time sessions in a historic mansion on the Spanish island of Mallorca, the album is a lush, unhurried meditation on longing, desire and loss. Gonzalez wrote most of the songs minutes before recording them with the band — drummer Jacob Tomsky, bassist Randy Miller and keyboardist Phillip Tubbs — capturing a spontaneity that sits at odds with the music's glacial surface calm.

Where the self-titled debut had established Cigarettes After Sex as masters of a particular kind of slow-burning, reverb-soaked intimacy, Cry deepens and refines that sound rather than departing from it. Gonzalez's whispered vocals float above beds of gently shimmering guitar and gauzy synthesiser, each track a miniature study in emotional restraint. The result is a record that rewards patient listening — "Don't Let Me Go", "Kiss It Off Me" and "Heavenly" are among the most quietly devastating songs in their catalogue — and one that has found an enormous and devoted audience, with the album accumulating hundreds of millions of streams.
