X's is the third studio album by Cigarettes After Sex, released on 12 July 2024 on Partisan Records. Recorded in Los Angeles between August 2020 and February 2022 and mastered at Sterling Sound, it is the most emotionally direct and focused record of the band's career to date. Where previous albums drew from a broad range of relationships and experiences, X's centres almost entirely on a single four-year relationship — its beginning, its arc, and its end — with songwriter Greg Gonzalez inhabiting every stage of it with the unhurried, cinematic intimacy that has become his signature.

The album marks a subtle but perceptible sonic evolution: while Gonzalez's whispered vocals and shimmering reverb-drenched guitar remain the constant, the production draws away from the '50s and '60s touchstones of earlier records towards a warmer, slower '70s and '80s palette — a late-night slow-dance quality that suits the subject matter perfectly. "Tejano Blue", "Silver Sable" and the gorgeous "Hideaway" stand among the finest songs of their catalogue, while "Ambien Slide" closes the album in a haze of resigned tenderness. By the time of release, Cigarettes After Sex had accumulated billions of streams globally, cementing their status as one of the most quietly influential acts in contemporary indie music.
