The Art of Loving is Olivia Dean's second studio album, released in September 2025 on Capitol Records, and one of the most warmly received British records of its year. It arrives as a conscious progression from her acclaimed 2023 debut Messy — the title itself signals the intention: where that record documented the difficult, unresolved emotional residue of relationships ending, this one is oriented toward understanding what love, in its most considered and generous form, actually demands of us. The record was largely recorded at The House of Loving and Wadeson Street Studios in London, and the intimacy of those sessions is audible throughout.

The album opens with a brief, gorgeous intro — the title track — before moving into "Nice to Each Other", a piece of disarmingly direct advice-song that establishes the record's emotional compass immediately. "Lady Lady" is one of the standout tracks, its brass arrangement — Jermaine Amissah on saxophone, Joe Bristow on trombone, Jack Banjo Courtney on trumpet — giving it a warmth and physicality reminiscent of classic late-1960s soul. "Close Up" draws on a wider pool of production talent, its layered arrangement among the album's most ambitious. "Man I Need", the lead single, showcases Dean's voice at its most commanding. The album closes with the quiet, precise "I've Seen It", a fitting resolution. Executive-produced by Zach Nahome and mastered by Simon Francis, this is an album of rare emotional intelligence and musical craft.
