2001 (originally titled The Chronic 2001) is the second studio album by Dr. Dre, released on 16 November 1999 on Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records. Coming seven years after the genre-defining The Chronic, and after Dre had spent the intervening years building Aftermath Records and developing a roster of artists, 2001 was both a creative statement and an industry power move. It debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 and has sold over eight million copies in the US alone.

The production is the star. Dre refined his G-funk sound into something harder, cleaner and more cinematic, with layered synthesizer melodies, deep bass, tight drum programming and orchestral flourishes. Still D.R.E. (co-written by Jay-Z) became one of the most iconic piano riffs in hip-hop history. Forgot About Dre, featuring Eminem, won a Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. The Next Episode with Snoop Dogg is an all-time West Coast anthem, while deeper cuts like Xxplosive and What's the Difference showcase the album's range.

The guest list reads like a who's who of late-1990s hip-hop: Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, Kurupt, Nate Dogg, Hittman and Devin the Dude all contribute. This heavyweight reissue on UMC/Aftermath/Interscope presents the album across two LPs on vinyl.
