Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 in E minor, "From the New World" is one of the most popular and frequently performed symphonies in the repertoire. Composed during Dvorak's time as director of the National Conservatory in New York, it draws on the spirit of American folk music and spirituals while remaining deeply rooted in the Czech composer's own melodic language. The famous Largo second movement, with its cor anglais melody that became the song "Goin' Home," is one of the most recognisable passages in all orchestral music.
