Description

Iron Maiden is the self-titled debut album by the band that would become the most successful act of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. With Paul Di'Anno's raw, punk-influenced vocals fronting Steve Harris's galloping bass lines and the twin guitar attack of Dave Murray and Dennis Stratton, the album captured the energy and ambition of a band on the verge of conquering the world.

Running Free was the album's lead single and Iron Maiden's first Top 40 hit, its infectious riff and Di'Anno's streetwise delivery making it an instant anthem. Phantom of the Opera is the album's most ambitious track, its seven minutes of shifting tempos and intricate guitar harmonies foreshadowing the epic compositions of the band's later work. Iron Maiden closes the album with a menacing bass riff and one of the most recognisable choruses in heavy metal. Prowler opens proceedings at full throttle, setting the tone for an album of relentless energy.
