Description

Joe Hisaishi's score for Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away (千と千尋の神隠し) is one of the composer's most celebrated works, underpinning the Academy Award-winning 2001 Studio Ghibli film with a palette that moves from intimate piano miniatures to grand orchestral set pieces. Performed by the New Japan Philharmonic under Hisaishi's own direction, the soundtrack remains a cornerstone of modern Japanese film music.

Across three sides of music the score unfolds from the opening One Summer's Day through character portraits such as The Dragon Boy, Yubaba and No Face, to the climactic The Sixth Station and The Return. The album closes with Always With Me (いつも何度でも), sung by Youmi Kimura — a song that became emblematic of the film and a hit in Japan in its own right.

This 2023 Japanese pressing on Studio Ghibli Records presents the soundtrack across two discs, with the fourth side given over to a lacquer-etched artwork panel. Supplied as a Japanese import with Obi strip, hype sticker and insert.
