Super Ape Inna Jungle was originally released on Ariwa Sounds in 1995 and is one of the most unusual entries in Lee "Scratch" Perry's vast catalogue — a dub and jungle crossover record that teams the Upsetter with Ariwa label boss Mad Professor and London jungle production duo Douggie Digital and Juggler. Recorded at Ariwa Studios in South London, it captures Perry in full free-associative vocal flow over a backdrop that shifts between classic steppers dub and mid-90s jungle breaks.

The first five tracks — I'm Not A Human Being, Nasty Spell, Writing On The Wall, Why Complaining? and Thunder And Lightning — are jungle mixes produced by Douggie Digital and Juggler, pitching Perry's vocals against chopped amen breaks and sub bass. Side B opens with the title track Super Ape Inna Jungle before moving into a sequence of Mad Professor dub mixes — Black Spell, Dancing Roots and Sheba Dance — that return the record to the melted, heavily processed Ariwa sound the Professor is known for.
