You Want It Darker is the fourteenth and final studio album by Leonard Cohen, released just nineteen days before his death on 7 November 2016. Produced by his son Adam Cohen and recorded largely at Cohen's home in Los Angeles during a period of declining health, the album is a stark, meditative work that confronts mortality with characteristic grace, wit and spiritual depth.

The title track You Want It Darker is built around a haunting choral arrangement by Cantor Gideon Zelermyer and the Shaar Hashomayim Synagogue Choir, Cohen's deep, gravelly voice intoning "Hineni, hineni / I'm ready, my Lord" -- the Hebrew declaration of readiness. Treaty is a tender, resigned love song that ranks among his finest late-period writing. Steer Your Way is a spare, spoken-word meditation that draws on both sacred and secular imagery. Leaving the Table carries an unmistakable sense of farewell, its lyric reading as a final statement from an artist who knew his time was short. The album won the Grammy for Best Rock Performance posthumously.
