Description

Pure Heroine is the debut studio album by Lorde, released on Lava and Republic Records. Written and recorded when Ella Yelich-O'Connor was just sixteen years old in her native New Zealand, the album arrived as a startling counterpoint to the maximalist pop of its era: stripped-back, lyrically sharp and built around minimalist electronic production by Joel Little.

Royals, released as a single in advance of the album, became a global phenomenon, reaching number one in the US (the first New Zealand solo artist to do so) and winning two Grammy Awards. Its deadpan critique of pop excess set the tone for an album that is consistently more interested in observation than spectacle. Tennis Court and Team are built on pulsing beats and chanted hooks, Ribs is a quietly devastating meditation on growing up, and A World Alone closes the album with a defiant, anthemic statement of independence.

The album's influence on pop production was significant: its embrace of negative space, conversational vocal delivery and lyrical specificity helped reshape what mainstream pop could sound like. This pressing presents the 10-track album on a single LP in a gatefold sleeve.
