Description

Kill 'Em All is the debut studio album by Metallica — James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Cliff Burton — released on 25 July 1983 through the independent Megaforce Records label. Recorded in just three weeks at Music America Studios in Rochester, New York with producer Paul Curcio, it arrived at a moment when heavy metal was defined by the theatrical posturing of the Sunset Strip — and detonated it entirely. Fusing the intricate NWOBHM riffing of Diamond Head and Iron Maiden with the velocity of Motörhead and the aggression of hardcore punk, Kill 'Em All established the blueprint for thrash metal and inspired virtually every heavy band that followed.

Opening with the explosive "Hit the Lights" and tearing through ten tracks at unrelenting speed, the album balances sheer ferocity with genuine compositional ambition. "The Four Horsemen" — a reworked version of the Dave Mustaine composition "The Mechanix" — runs to over seven minutes, while "(Anesthesia) – Pulling Teeth" gives Cliff Burton a solo bass showcase that remains one of the instrument's finest recorded moments. "Seek & Destroy" and "Whiplash" became immediate live staples that have never left the setlist. The album has been certified 4× platinum by the RIAA and is widely ranked among the most influential debut albums in rock history.

This 2016 reissue on Metallica's own Blackened Recordings label presents the album remastered for the first time by Howie Weinberg, with vinyl lacquers cut by Bernie Grundman, pressed on 180-gram black vinyl and manufactured in Germany on Pallas pressing equipment. Includes a double-sided glossy insert with lyrics, credits and band photographs, plus a 320kbps digital download card.
