Blackwater Park is the fifth studio album by Opeth, produced by Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree, and represents the pinnacle of the Swedish band's signature blend of progressive rock beauty and death metal ferocity. The album moves seamlessly between passages of delicate acoustic guitar and clean vocals and sections of crushing heaviness and growled vocals, creating a dynamic range unmatched in extreme metal.

The title track Blackwater Park builds across twelve minutes from a quiet, menacing opening to a devastating climax. The Drapery Falls became one of the band's most beloved songs, its haunting clean passage giving way to one of Mikael Akerfeldt's most powerful riffs. Bleak features a guest appearance from Steven Wilson and moves between beauty and brutality with breathtaking fluidity. The Leper Affinity opens the album with ten minutes of constantly shifting moods and textures.
