Description

Pirates Choice is the landmark album by Orchestra Baobab, the Senegalese ensemble who fused Afro-Cuban rhythms with West African griot traditions, Wolof and Mandinka vocals and Latin-influenced guitar. Originally recorded at the Baobab club in Dakar and first circulated on cassette in Senegal, the album reached international audiences through World Circuit's CD release and has since been recognised as one of the greatest African recordings of all time.

The group's sound is defined by Barthelemy Attisso's clean, melodic guitar lines weaving around Issa Cissokho's saxophone, with the rhythmic foundation anchored by Bala Sidibe's timbales and the interplay of multiple vocalists including Rudy Gomis and Sidibe himself. Utrus Horas opens with a slow-burning groove that builds across nearly nine minutes. Ray M'Bele and Soldadi showcase the band's Afro-Cuban roots, while Werente Serigne and Coumba draw more deeply from Senegalese vocal traditions. This 2LP edition is the first vinyl pressing of the album and includes six previously unavailable tracks.

This World Circuit edition presents the album across two LPs on 180 gram vinyl.
