Description

Vulgar Display of Power is the second major-label album by Pantera and the record that perfected the groove metal sound the band had pioneered on Cowboys from Hell. Heavier, more aggressive and more focused than its predecessor, the album paired Dimebag Darrell's crushing, detuned riffs with Phil Anselmo's abrasive vocal style to create one of the heaviest records of the 1990s.

Walk is built on one of the most iconic riffs in metal history, its mid-tempo swagger and confrontational lyric making it a permanent fixture of the genre. Mouth for War opens the album at full intensity, Dimebag's riff shifting between tight, palm-muted chugging and wailing harmonics. This Love moves from a clean, almost tender verse to an explosive chorus, demonstrating the band's dynamic range. A New Level and Fucking Hostile are exercises in pure aggression, while Hollow closes the album with an extended, emotionally charged piece.
