Phil Collins' career as a solo artist stands as one of the most commercially dominant runs in the history of popular music. After establishing himself as the drummer and vocalist of Genesis, Collins launched his solo career in 1981 with Face Value, and over the following decade became one of the defining presences on both sides of the Atlantic. Between 1982 and 1989 alone, he scored three UK number-one singles and seven US chart-toppers, amassing more US Top 40 singles than any other artist throughout the 1980s. The Singles was released in October 2016 as the culmination of Collins' extensive Take a Look at Me Now reissue campaign, which had seen his entire back catalogue remastered and presented anew. Collins is one of only two recording artists — alongside Paul McCartney — to have sold over 100 million records worldwide both as a solo artist and as a principal member of a band.

The 2LP vinyl edition, first issued in June 2018, distils Collins' hit-making career into 19 essential tracks, selecting from across his studio albums from Face Value (1981) through to Going Back (2010). The compilation encompasses UK chart-toppers including 'You Can't Hurry Love', his duet with Earth, Wind & Fire vocalist Philip Bailey 'Easy Lover', and 'A Groovy Kind of Love', alongside US number ones 'Sussudio', 'One More Night', 'Separate Lives', 'Two Hearts', and the chart-dominating 'Another Day in Paradise'. The mastering process was overseen by longtime Collins collaborator Nick Davis, ensuring a cohesive and authoritative presentation of these recordings.

Among the highlights are some of the most recognisable songs in pop history. 'In the Air Tonight', Collins' brooding and atmospheric debut single, opens Side A with its iconic drum fill intact; 'Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)', written for the 1984 film of the same name, showcases his gift for cinematic balladry; while 'Something Happened on the Way to Heaven' and 'Both Sides of the Story' demonstrate the social and emotional depth that ran beneath the glossy production of his 1989–1993 period. Closing the set is '(Love Is Like A) Heatwave', taken from his final studio album, providing a graceful bookend to nearly three decades of consistent chart success.

This pressing was half-speed mastered at Abbey Road Studios Room 30 by Miles Showell, whose involvement is confirmed by the matrix etchings on all known variants. The set is housed in a gatefold sleeve and includes printed inner sleeves. The remastered audio draws on the 2015 and 2016 remasters prepared across Collins' Take a Look at Me Now campaign.
