Description

The Wall is the eleventh studio album by Pink Floyd, released as a double album on 30 November 1979 on Harvest Records. Written almost entirely by Roger Waters, it is a rock opera telling the story of Pink, a rock star who builds a metaphorical wall around himself following a lifetime of traumatic experiences: the death of his father in World War II, an overbearing mother, brutal schoolteachers and the isolation of fame. It became one of the best-selling albums in history, with over 30 million copies sold worldwide.

The album is structured as a continuous narrative across four sides. Side one establishes the bricks in the wall: In the Flesh? opens with a deceptively triumphant fanfare before revealing the darkness beneath, Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2) became Pink Floyd's only UK number one single with its famous children's choir, and Mother is a devastating dialogue between Pink and his overprotective parent. Side two deepens the isolation through Young Lust, One of My Turns and Nobody Home. Side three brings the wall to completion with the paranoid Waiting for the Worms and the terrifying In the Flesh, before The Trial stages an elaborate internal courtroom drama and the wall finally comes down in Outside the Wall.

Produced by Bob Ezrin, David Gilmour and Roger Waters, the album features some of Pink Floyd's most recognisable music: David Gilmour's soaring guitar on Comfortably Numb, the acoustic intimacy of Hey You and Is There Anybody Out There?, and the raw power of Run Like Hell. This remastered edition on Harvest/EMI presents the complete double album on 180g vinyl in a gatefold sleeve.
