Description
Screamadelica is the third studio album from Primal Scream, released in September 1991 on Creation Records. It arrived at the intersection of rock, house, and psychedelia at the exact moment those worlds were colliding in British culture, and the result was an album that sounded unlike anything that had come before it. It won the inaugural Mercury Prize in 1992 and remains one of the defining records of its era — a document of the acid house generation translated into album form.
The album was shaped in large part by producer and DJ Andrew Weatherall, whose remix of I’m Losing More Than I’ll Ever Have became Loaded — the track that set the template for the entire record. Higher Than the Sun, produced by The Orb, distils the album’s lysergic ambition into five minutes of slow-motion euphoria. Come Together and Don’t Fight It, Feel It (featuring vocalist Denise Johnson) push the gospel-house synthesis further still. Producers Hugo Nicolson and Jimmy Miller contribute to a record that moves fluidly between dance-floor utility and album listening.
This 2015 reissue on Sony Music / Creation Records is pressed at 180g by Optimal Media GmbH from the stampers of the original 1991 edition. Presented in a gatefold sleeve across four sides.
