Mother's Milk is the fourth studio album by Red Hot Chili Peppers and the first to feature guitarist John Frusciante and drummer Chad Smith, the line-up that would go on to record Blood Sugar Sex Magik and become one of the biggest bands in the world. The album marked a significant step forward from the band's earlier funk-punk records, adding a harder rock edge and more structured songwriting while retaining the manic energy that defined them.

Higher Ground, a cover of Stevie Wonder's 1973 classic, became the band's breakthrough single, Frusciante's scorching guitar tone and Flea's slap bass driving a version that is almost unrecognisable from the original. Knock Me Down is an unusually heartfelt song about the dangers of drug abuse, written in the wake of original guitarist Hillel Slovak's death. Taste the Pain is a melodic, horn-accented track that showed the band's range. Nobody Weird Like Me and Good Time Boys deliver the full-throttle funk-punk energy the band was known for, while Pretty Little Ditty is a brief, beautiful instrumental that was later sampled by Crazy Town for their hit "Butterfly." Sexy Mexican Maid and Stone Cold Bush are high-energy workouts driven by Flea's relentless bass playing.

This EMI reissue presents the album on 180 gram vinyl as part of the From the Capitol Vaults series.
