Description

Blackout is the eighth studio album by Scorpions, produced by Dieter Dierks. Released during the band's most commercially successful period, it cemented their status as one of hard rock's premier acts, reaching platinum certification in the United States and spawning one of their most enduring singles.

No One Like You is the album's centrepiece and one of the defining power ballads of its era, driven by Rudolf Schenker's arpeggiated guitar figure and Klaus Meine's soaring vocal. The title track Blackout opens with Matthias Jabs's aggressive riffing and sets an unrelenting pace. Dynamite and Arizona maintain the album's high energy, while When the Smoke Is Going Down closes with a more reflective, atmospheric arrangement. Meine's vocals throughout are particularly notable given that he had undergone surgery on his vocal cords prior to recording, making Blackout something of a comeback record.
