Stand! is the fourth studio album by Sly & the Family Stone and the record that made them one of the most important bands in American music. Blending funk, rock, soul and psychedelia into a sound that was genuinely new, the album carried a message of racial harmony, optimism and empowerment that resonated with an America in the midst of enormous social upheaval.

The title track Stand! is a call to action, its driving rhythm and anthemic chorus making it one of the defining songs of the late 1960s. Everyday People reached number one on the pop charts, its message of equality delivered over a deceptively simple groove. I Want to Take You Higher became the band's Woodstock anthem, its infectious energy capturing the spirit of an era. Sing a Simple Song is a tight, funky workout that influenced a generation of bass players. Sex Machine closes the album with a nineteen-minute jam.
