Released on Music On Vinyl, the collection traces the band's evolution from late-1960s psychedelic pop through their defining 1970s boogie-rock era and into the arena-filling hits of the 1980s and beyond.

The collection opens with the band's 1968 breakthrough Pictures of Matchstick Men, a psychedelic pop gem that bears little resemblance to the driving, heads-down boogie that would become their trademark. Down Down, their only UK number one single, is three minutes of relentless, chugging guitar. Caroline, Roll Over Lay Down and Rain showcase the classic Rossi-Parfitt dual-guitar attack at its most powerful. Rockin' All Over the World, their cover of the John Fogerty song, became the anthem that opened Live Aid in 1985. Whatever You Want and What You're Proposing are masterclasses in lean, riff-driven rock. In the Army Now brought the band an unexpected late-career hit in 1986.
