Description

The Slow Rush is Tame Impala's fourth studio album and the most sonically polished and emotionally expansive record yet from Kevin Parker — the Australian multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer who is Tame Impala in all but name. Released on 14 February 2020 via Island Records and Interscope, it arrived five years after the acclaimed Currents and confirmed Parker's position as one of the most important and distinctive voices in contemporary music.

Recorded between his home studio in Fremantle, Western Australia and a rented house in Los Angeles, the album is entirely written, performed, produced and mixed by Parker — a remarkable feat given its breadth and ambition. Thematically, The Slow Rush circles obsessively around time: its passing, its weight, the tension between nostalgia and the present moment. Parker has described it as exploring the feeling of a lifetime compressed into a lightning bolt, and the music — lush, woozy and immaculately produced — mirrors that sensation throughout.

The album yielded four major singles. "Borderline" (released in 2019 as a standalone single and later included here) is one of Parker's most immediately arresting pop compositions. "It Might Be Time" is a driving, self-questioning centrepiece. "Posthumous Forgiveness" — a deeply personal track addressed to Parker's late father — is the album's emotional heart, moving from brooding verses into an extraordinary, euphoric second half. "Lost In Yesterday" is a shimmering, disco-inflected highlight that was one of 2020's most played tracks globally.

Beyond the singles, The Slow Rush is best experienced as a complete journey. The album opens with the sweeping, orchestrated build of "One More Year" and closes with the hypnotic, seven-minute "One More Hour" — bookending twelve tracks of immersive, psychedelic pop that reward repeated listening. The album received a Grammy nomination for Alternative Music Album of the Year and won five ARIA Music Awards in 2020, including Album of the Year.

This standard edition is pressed on 2× 180g heavyweight black vinyl, presented in a gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves.
