Fearless is Taylor Swift's second studio album — the record that transformed her from a promising teenage country artist into a global phenomenon, and the album that launched the commercial and cultural arc that has made her one of the bestselling musicians in history. Released on 11 November 2008 via Big Machine Records, it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and spent eleven non-consecutive weeks at the top — more than any other album released that year. It became the bestselling album of 2009 in the United States, was certified 9× Platinum by the RIAA, and won four Grammy Awards including Album of the Year — making Swift, at 20, the youngest artist ever to win that award at the time. In the UK it reached number five on the Albums Chart. Fearless also yielded four certified Platinum singles: "Love Story" and "You Belong With Me" both reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and became two of the defining pop crossover singles of the era, helping establish Swift's transition from country to mainstream pop.

Swift wrote or co-wrote every one of the 13 original album tracks — a remarkable achievement for an 18-year-old — with collaborators including Liz Rose, Hillary Lindsey, Colbie Caillat (who also appears on "Breathe") and John Rich. Many of the songs were written during the touring and promotional cycle for her debut album, often without access to regular collaborators, meaning eight tracks were entirely self-penned. Producer Nathan Chapman — who had worked with Swift since her debut — returned to helm the sessions, developing a sound that drew on traditional country production while incorporating pop hooks of considerable commercial sophistication. The album's emotional subject matter is consistently teenage experience: first love, heartbreak, high school social dynamics, and the particular intensity of early-life romantic feeling rendered with a lyrical precision that connected with an enormous international audience. The opening run of "Fearless", "Fifteen", "Love Story" and "Hey Stephen" represents some of the most assured country-pop writing of the decade.

This Platinum Edition extends the original 13-track album with six additional songs — "Jump Then Fall", "Untouchable", "Forever & Always (Piano Version)", "Come in with the Rain", "Superstar" and "The Other Side of the Door" — which were originally released only on international editions of the album and on the 2009 Platinum Edition CD. Sequenced across Sides A and B, they precede the original album material (Sides B–D), allowing the collection to function as both a comprehensive document of the Fearless era and as the definitive single-format edition of the record. "Untouchable" — a cover of the Luna Halo song — is among the finest performances on the collection; "Forever & Always (Piano Version)" strips back the original album track to a stark solo piano reading of considerably greater emotional directness than the original.

This 2016 pressing on Big Machine Records presents all 19 tracks on 2× 180 gram black vinyl, pressed at United Record Pressing in Nashville, housed in a gatefold picture sleeve.
