Description

Things Fall Apart, named after the Chinua Achebe novel, is the fourth studio album by The Roots and the record that brought their live-band approach to hip-hop to its widest audience. Anchored by Questlove's inventive drumming and Black Thought's commanding lyricism, the album proved that hip-hop could be performed entirely with live instruments without sacrificing any of the genre's rhythmic power.

You Got Me, featuring Erykah Badu, won the Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group and remains one of the most emotionally resonant hip-hop songs of the 1990s. The Next Movement is a DJ Premier-produced track that showcases Black Thought's technical prowess. Act Too (The Love of My Life) opens the album with a jazz-inflected groove. Double Trouble pairs Black Thought with Mos Def over a sparse, driving beat. Adrenaline! brings punk-level intensity to the band's performance.
