Thursday is the second mixtape by The Weeknd, originally self-released as a free download just five months after House of Balloons. It deepens the dark, atmospheric R&B sound of its predecessor while exploring more complex song structures and emotional territory.

Where House of Balloons was about the seduction, Thursday is about the aftermath. The mixtape follows a recurring relationship that only happens on Thursdays, with Tesfaye's narrator caught between desire and self-destruction. Lonely Star opens with a yearning, falsetto-driven hook over shimmering production. The Zone, featuring a verse from Drake, is one of The Weeknd's most celebrated early tracks, its atmospheric production and confessional tone capturing the project at its best. The Birds Part 1 and Part 2 form a two-song suite that traces a relationship from tenderness to collapse. Gone is an eight-minute slow burn, while Rolling Stone and Heaven or Las Vegas (named after the Cocteau Twins album) sustain the nocturnal mood. Valerie closes with a raw, stripped-back vulnerability.

This vinyl reissue on Republic/XO presents all nine tracks across two LPs in a gatefold sleeve.
