Close to the Edge is the fifth studio album by Yes and the pinnacle of the band's progressive rock ambition. Recorded at Advision Studios in London with Eddie Offord engineering and co-producing, the album distilled the group's virtuosity into three extended compositions of remarkable structural complexity and emotional sweep.

The title track Close to the Edge occupies the entire first side, its eighteen minutes divided into four linked sections that move from chaotic, dissonant openings through passages of pastoral beauty to an anthemic finale driven by Rick Wakeman's church organ. Side two pairs And You and I, a gentler, more lyrical piece built around Steve Howe's acoustic guitar and Jon Anderson's soaring vocal, with Siberian Khatru, a rhythmically forceful track whose interlocking guitar and keyboard patterns showcase the band at their most tightly coordinated. Bill Bruford's inventive drumming throughout gives even the most complex passages a natural, organic feel -- his final album with the band before departing for King Crimson.

This Rhino reissue presents the album on 180 gram vinyl in a gatefold sleeve, mastered by Bernie Grundman and is cut from the original master tapes. The hype sticker says it is pressed with more care than ever!
