Collection: Aphex Twin Vinyl Records – Selected Ambient Works, Syro & Essential Electronic Albums on Vinyl
Richard D. James — better known as Aphex Twin — is the most inventive and influential figure in electronic music. Working from Cornwall and releasing primarily through Warp Records, he has spent three decades redefining what electronic production can achieve: ambient soundscapes that feel like dreaming, drill'n'bass rhythms of terrifying complexity, and melodies that manage to be both alien and deeply human. His influence runs through Radiohead, Skrillex, and virtually every producer working in experimental electronic music today.
On vinyl, his records reveal their architecture in ways that compressed digital formats simply cannot. The cavernous spaces of his ambient work, the precision of his drum programming, the way textures shift across the stereo field — these are records that were made for focused, physical listening. His catalogue is one of the deepest and most rewarding in modern music, and the 180-gram reissues from Warp sound definitive.

Selected Ambient Works 85-92 (1992)The record that announced a generational talent. Created between the ages of 14 and 21, these tracks blend ambient techno with an emotional warmth that belies their electronic origins. Xtal, Tha, and Heliosphan are cornerstones of the genre. It sounds like music beamed in from somewhere else entirely — intimate, otherworldly, and endlessly replayable. One of the most important electronic albums ever made.
Selected Ambient Works Volume II (1994)Darker and more minimal than its predecessor, Volume II strips away beats almost entirely in favour of pure atmosphere. James described the compositions as inspired by lucid dreaming, and the results are hypnotic — long, evolving textures that reward patient, uninterrupted listening. A challenging record that has only grown in critical stature.
Richard D. James Album (1996)A sharp pivot into frenetic drill'n'bass and distorted melody. Tracks like Girl/Boy Song and Fingerbib sit side by side — one frantic, the other achingly tender. The album that proved James could write pop songs and destroy them in the same breath. The original pressing included a paper face mask insert.
Syro (2014)His long-awaited return to Warp after a 13-year gap, and a Grammy winner for Best Dance/Electronic Album. Syro is dense, intricate, and endlessly detailed — acid lines, complex polyrhythms, and melodies that emerge from layers of synthesis. The vinyl pressing does justice to production that rewards every listen.
