Collection: Judas Priest Vinyl Records

Judas Priest are one of the foundations of heavy metal. From their Birmingham origins in the early 1970s through British Steel in 1980 and the Painkiller-era resurgence in 1990, the band's twin-guitar attack (KK Downing and Glenn Tipton) and Rob Halford's operatic vocal range effectively wrote the playbook for metal as a self-conscious genre.

The records benefit from vinyl playback partly because the rhythm guitar tones — particularly on the Tom Allom-produced run — were tracked with serious low-mid weight that compresses badly on streaming.

Best Judas Priest Albums on Vinyl

British Steel (1980)
— Their commercial breakthrough. "Breaking the Law", "Living After Midnight", "Metal Gods". Defining.

Painkiller (1990)
— Their thrashier late-career peak. Scott Travis on drums; the title track alone is essential.

Screaming for Vengeance (1982)
— Their biggest US album. "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" anchors it.

Sad Wings of Destiny (1976)
— The pre-fame second album, often cited by fans as their true masterpiece. Darker and more progressive.
