Description
Let's Stay Together is the fifth studio album by Al Green, produced by Willie Mitchell at Royal Studios in Memphis. The album cemented Green's position as the greatest soul vocalist of the 1970s and contains some of the most enduring recordings in popular music.
The title track Let's Stay Together reached number one on both the pop and R&B charts, its combination of Green's silky tenor, Mitchell's warm production and the tight Hi Rhythm Section creating a sound that defined Memphis soul for a generation. How Can You Mend a Broken Heart reimagines the Bee Gees song as a slow, aching soul ballad. La-La for You is a joyful, uptempo number that showcases Green's vocal agility. Old Time Lovin' and It Ain't No Fun to Me demonstrate the depth of the album beyond its famous title track.
