Description

The Dave Brubeck Quartet's Time Out was originally released on Columbia Records in December 1959 and became one of the best-selling and most influential jazz albums of all time. Famous for its pioneering use of unusual time signatures, the album features the iconic Take Five, composed by alto saxophonist Paul Desmond, which became the biggest-selling jazz single in history.

Opening with the driving 9/8 rhythm of Blue Rondo À La Turk, the album moves through the gentle Strange Meadow Lark before arriving at the legendary Take Five in 5/4 time. Side B offers the waltz-time Kathy's Waltz, the swinging Everybody's Jumpin' and the inventive Pick Up Sticks. The quartet of Brubeck on piano, Desmond on alto saxophone, Eugene Wright on bass and Joe Morello on drums is captured at the peak of their creative partnership.

This 2024 reissue on Columbia/Legacy presents the album on 180g heavyweight vinyl, pressed at Memphis Record Pressing.
