Description

Island Songs is a project by Icelandic composer Olafur Arnalds in which he travelled to seven locations across Iceland over seven weeks, collaborating with a different local musician at each stop. The resulting album captures the landscape, light and isolation of Iceland through intimate compositions for piano, strings and electronics.

Each track was composed, recorded and filmed in a single week, giving the project an immediacy and spontaneity unusual in contemporary classical music. The collaborations range from folk singer Einar Georg Einarsson to classical singer Dagny Arnalds, each bringing their own character to Arnalds's distinctive blend of acoustic and electronic sound. The album is a quiet, contemplative work that rewards close listening. This edition is pressed on forest green vinyl.
