Deftones — Chino Moreno, Stephen Carpenter, Abe Cunningham, and Frank Delgado — formed in Sacramento in 1988 and have spent three decades proving that heavy music can also be beautiful. While their early work emerged from the nu-metal scene, they quickly transcended it — White Pony in 2000 fused alternative metal with shoegaze, trip hop, and post-rock, and Elite won the Grammy for Best Metal Performance. White Pony was recorded at The Plant Studios in Sausalito and Larrabee Sound in West Hollywood with producer Terry Date, and the crystalline production — Stephen Carpenter's layered guitars, Frank Delgado's atmospheric synths, Chino Moreno's dynamic vocal shifts from whisper to scream — was engineered for depth and detail. On vinyl, those layers separate and breathe in a way compressed digital formats struggle to match. The 20th Anniversary Deluxe four-LP box set, which includes the Black Stallion remix album with contributions from DJ Shadow, Robert Smith, and Phantogram, is a collector's essential.

Diamond Eyes (2010)A triumphant return after the most difficult period in the band's history. Diamond Eyes, Rocket Skates, and You've Seen the Butcher are among their finest songs — heavy, melodic, and beautifully produced. The album proved that Deftones could evolve without losing the intensity that made them great. Crisp, powerful production that sounds superb on vinyl.

Koi No Yokan (2012)Perhaps their most consistent album front to back. Tempest and Swerve City showcase a band at the height of their powers — confident, atmospheric, and effortlessly heavy. The production is immaculate, with every layer of guitar, synth, and vocal given space to breathe. A vinyl essential.
