Pavement Vinyl Records

Pavement defined American indie rock across the 1990s. Five studio albums between 1992 and 1999 — moving from the lo-fi shamble of Slanted and Enchanted through the increasingly polished production of Brighten the Corners and Terror Twilight — produced one of the most influential catalogues of the period, and Stephen Malkmus's songwriting has aged into recognised significance.

The Matador vinyl reissues — particularly the double-LP Luxe & Reduxe expanded versions — are the definitive pressings. They include the contemporaneous singles, B-sides and Peel Sessions material that surrounded each album.

Slanted and Enchanted (1992)
— Their debut. Recorded for nothing at Gary Young's home studio. "Summer Babe", "Trigger Cut", "Here". A foundational lo-fi record.

Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (1994)
— The second album. The studio-recorded follow-up. "Cut Your Hair", "Range Life", "Gold Soundz".

Wowee Zowee (1995)
— The eighteen-track sprawl. Their most divisive record at release, now widely considered their best. "Father to a Sister of Thought", "Grounded".

Brighten the Corners (1997)
— The Mitch Easter-produced fourth album. "Stereo", "Shady Lane". More direct than its predecessors.
